Simple and effective, yes, but perhaps not easy to learn for a new
user...

Personally, I just burn my files to DVD using k3b.  Unfortunately,
this is not on an automatic schedule, which means I back up a lot
less often than I should.

You might want to try out SUSE's backup tool built into YaST
<http://en.opensuse.org/YaST_System_Backup> (no personal experience
with it myself).
