While the question is really about whether you can do a loopback, which
others have answered yes, I wanted to take a different
approach/question. What are the minimum specs to set up an Ubuntu Server
and a cross over ethernet to it. I figure You could do for less than
$100. My guess was you can usually pick up some older hardware from free
to $100. It is the time/space that is a bigger set back. for example,

server would it be fast enough to serve your web applications? You could
run it headless and ssh into it? Then when you are ready to move to a
hosting service(?) you would be more used to the experience. Opinions?
