 	Agreed. The kernel raid with Linux, which I've been using (in lieu 
of an actual hardware RAID controller) has mdadm, which is the management 
utility. It allows you to add/remove/fail/etc disk slices. (I hate having 
to reboot to edit RAID parameters in the hardware units)

 	I'd also recommend using multiple controllers, instead of putting 
all the disks on just one controller.
