mcelog[1] is the tool needed to read machine check exception messages from the 
kernel buffer in x86-64 kernels since 2.6.4. AFAICT, the kernel maintains a 
binary log of low-level hardware malfunctions, but no longer decodes and 
prints this data to the system logs.
