I bought a 500GB external usb drive for my hp compaq nc6230 laptop.
Partitioned it into multiple partitions. The first partition is 100GB. i
tried installing ubuntu 7.04.on the first partition of that disk. While in
install i gave "/dev/sdb" in the boot loader section so that i can use my
external usb drive in whatever system i want. When i start with USB
external hard disk as primary boot device it showed me Grub with ubuntu
generic. but when i choose ubuntu generic or recovery mode to proceed it
shows the following error.

Error 15: File not Found
Press any key to continue...

it takes me back to Grub. Here are the steps that i did for installation
1. Live CD. --> Chose "Text Installtion" so that i dont need to wait for
live boot up.
2. Chose keyboard,time,users,etc.
3. During partition it showed both my internal hard disk and external usb
drive.
4. Chose the first partition of USB drive and gave mount point as "/" and
chose to format it.
5. After installing packages it gave me option for boot loader. i gave
"/dev/sdb" since the internal hard disk was shown as "/dev/sda" and external
was shown as "/dev/sdb"
6. Boot loader went fine.
7.Restarted my laptop and chose "USB drive" as the boot device.

Then the Grub loaded and rest is Error 15:
