[wplug] script help needed

I use dialup to access the net and sometimes my connection stays up
for 4 or 5 hours but other times it drops after only a few minutes! I
don't think the line quality is an issue cause I use this same modem
(external serial modem) and same ISP in MS Windows without it ever
dropping even once. I used pppconfig to setup the connection and I use
"pon isp" to connect and "poff isp" to disconnect. I am in the middle
of a dist-upgrade (Debian) which needs to get about 400MB so at 4KB/s
this will take a while :) Anyways I would like to be able to leave my
machine unattended while this upgrade job runs but it keeps
disconnecting. So I was wondering if someone could give me a shell
script (sh/bash/perl/expect) that will 1) create the ppp connection
("pon isp nodetach dump debug") 2) start the upgrade ("apt-get update
; apt-get upgrade -y) 3) if the ppp connection drops it will go back
and perform steps 1 and 2.

Regards,
Zach
