We recently installed SUSE Linux 10.0 on a fileserver using
an AMD Athlon 64.  We could not install 64-bit Linux and had
to settle on the 32-bit and we had to configure the SATA
drives as IDE drives. (We needed to get the thing running;
we hope to get the issues straigthened out eventually.)

On the RAID issue, we turned off the on-board RAID and went
with strictly software RAID mirroring.  As it turns out,
most so-called hardware RAID systems seem to be software 
patches to the BIOS and offer little or no performance 
enhancement over a straight software implementation.
