I can speak to this at least. I got FiOS installed last week. They
aren't doing anything special with the router that they give you. In
fact, I don't have mine connected at all anymore. I've got the FiOS
running directly to my Linksys WRT54GS (running DD-WRT Linux firmware...).

I don't know much about the actual FiOS technology and what it is
exactly that they attached to my house. I'm treating it like an
ethernet connection. Their hardware does whatever it does and hands
ethernet to me, which I can plug right into my own router.

Oh, and I get a public IP address (via DHCP) on the WAN port of my router.

Thanks,
Rick Reynolds

If you're a mad scientist, you can use GPLv2'd software for your evil
plans to take over the world ('Sharks with lasers on their heads!!'),
and the GPLv2 just says that you have to give source code back. And
that's OK by me. I like sharks with lasers. I just want the mad
scientists of the world to pay me back in kind. -- Linus Torvalds
