[wplug] OT - word of warning on Maxtor 250GB drives

I have just one 30GB HDD in my laptop (my sole machine for the time
being) and would like to backup the disk. What is a good and
reasonably cheap way to do this? I was thinking of buying an external
USB disk but I only have a USB 1.0 port so would that be a rather slow
transfer? What is the best way to backup *everything* on a disk (note
I have a Windoze partition on here as well) in Linux?
