To say it's simply renamed is underselling it.  There are significant
new features in VMWare server.  Christian Hammond blogged some stuff
about it at:

Of key note, you don't get snapshotting and team functionality with
this.  Those are two AWESOME features of VMWare WorkStation - especially
if you're trying to track down weird bugs/investigate virii/etc.

Lots of cool new stuff in the pipe from VMWare.
