I'm most familiar with the ruby world - but I think it'd be great for
something like this initiative.

I'd suggest simple editing, like notepad or pico so it doesn't get in
the way and the younger ones don't think something magic is happening
on the IDE level.  If you must have an IDE, there are several for ruby
