Howdy!

The Western PA Linux Users Group will be hosting a meeting a
presentation by Bill Moran on Backups. It will be held this Saturday,
December 16th, from 10am - 2pm on the campus of Carnegie Mellon
University, Newell Simon Hall room 3002. This meeting is free and open
to the general public and no RSVP is required. For additional
information and directions to the site please see:

Here's a quick abstract of the talk:

Backups - By Bill Moran

Lots of things can go wrong with a computer system. From hard drive
failures to human error, one of the most wonderful feelings is to have
something go wrong and realize that you have a backup of your important
data.

I'll cover a number of backup technologies, from simple programs
such as tar, to the comprehensive network backup system: Bacula.

Bill is a former chair of WPLUG, and currently serves as secretary of
the WPLUG board. He's a system programmer and administrator for his day
job, and writer and FreeBSD fan in his off time.

Here's a quick breakdown of the meeting schedule:

10am - 11am: Organization, donuts, socialization
11am - Noon: Backups talk by Bill Moran
Noon - 1pm: Pizza and continuation of talk (pizza is $5)
1pm - 2pm: Additional time for socialization and questions

As always, we can use your help with this meeting. If you can be there
to help setup or clean up for this meeting, please let me know.

Thank you!

Patrick Wagstrom
Chair of WPLUG
