[wplug] dist-upgrade on Debian Etch, XFree86 -> x.org

Have any other Debian users on this list running Etch done a
dist-upgrade recently? Sometime (within the last month, maybe ???)
they've moved the switch-over to x.org into the testing branch.

I found a website that had an article about the switch-over when it was
in unstable, dated July of this year. The author really didn't have any
problems to report.

Well, I had a minor glitch. My gdm.conf file didn't get properly
updated and was referring to the XFree86 executable, so X wouldn't
start. I'm not all that familiar with that particular conf file, nor
was I sure what the proper executable to run in an x.org setup should be.

I attempted to uninstall / reinstall gdm, hoping that the setup scripts
would realize they were installing on an x.org machine, but that didn't
work. My gdm.conf file persisted across the uninstall / reinstall
cycle. In retrospect I should have used the --purge option to make sure
the old config file got removed.

Eventually I just tried removing the existing gdm.conf file and starting
it up. It complained about not having a conf file, but it started up
with some default options and I was able to get into X.

Things aren't 100% back to where they were before (trying to set my
login screen graphic isn't working for some reason) but the system is
usable again.

Just thought other Debian users might like a heads-up -- or maybe others
will chime in with their experiences?
