If he's looking to execute a simple list of commands, I'd be pretty
inclined to say that a simple [ba]sh script would be "better" in terms
of cleanliness and maintainability than an equivalent Perl script. Once
the logic overwhelms the "run exactly these commands" sections, I'd lean
more towards Perl.

If you disagree, I'd be interested in learning what I'm missing! If you
agree, I may have misinterpreted the scope of your statement.
