During the Lighting talks, we will give up to 10 individuals the floor for 5
minutes to talk about *anything* that might be of interest to the WPLUG
audience. So far Beth Lynn Eicher has volunteered to talk about WPLUG history
and Patrick Wagstrom has volunteers to talk about a yet to be determined topic.
Each lighting talk speaker will get a prize from the swag vaults of WPLUG. Your
talk could be educational, thought provoking, humorous, or controversial. Here
are some suggested topics: "my very first computer", "the status of wireless in
Pittsburgh", wardriving - pro or con, "How I first found Linux", topics of geek
culture interest, penguins - the animals or the hockey players, a neat program
you wrote, a cool screen
saver you found on the Internet, your favorite window manager, software
licenses, software patents, Microsoft, Apple computer, *bsd, using Windows
games with Wine, security, blogging, the future of computing, the history
of computing, robots, amazing stuff that your 3 year old can do on the
computer, VMS, apache, the Pittsburgh IT job market, databases, networking,
information privacy, ham radios, 80's cartoon characters,
digital video recording, "who is cuter tux or the bsd demon?", hacking,
cracking, perl vs python, emacs vs vi, the joy of pico, sysadmin humor, rms,
esr, dot matrix printers, how to sell open source, organizations in
Pittsburgh who are using Linux, SCO
The lighting talk invitation is *open to everyone*, not just WPLUG members, so
if you want the soap box for five minutes, post something to
wplug-plan at wplug.org

We also need ideas for "fun and games"
We could play "Tux Racer" on the projector.
We could play pass the penguin.
Again, we need suggestions, please send mail to wplug-plan at wplug.org

Another announcement will be posted to this list before the meeting
as we have more details.

Thanks and hope to see you there!

Beth Lynn Eicher
