This article seems to be just an editorial about how Microsoft should
consider buying Redhat, and that it should go after Linux for IP
reasons.

I think you might be overreacting with the lawyers comment.  Last
tuesday's talk showed that *some* lawyers are catching on to the Open
Source community.
