I didn't fix this, but I spoke with the person about the solution.
Evidentally the bios allocates 1mb of ram for video card. The windows
driver allocates more ram so it can use higher resolutions. In linux he had
to download some rpms to fix this. I'm not really sure of the specifics,
but this solution (using system ram for video ram) seems really "cheap".
