Hello,

My sony laptop has a dual boot with windows XP and
Fedora core 3. Now (as always) my windows is giving
me lot of problems (it is not recognizing any of my cd
or dvd (internal or external), which it used to
recognize even last week. As usual, sony denied any
help since I have loaded linux in my machine and so
according to them I am "not eligible" for their
support (more so due to the fact that my system is one
year old)! Microsoft will not offer any free online
help me since I have not got the operating system from
them and have asked me to check with Sony. So I have
now decided to throw away my 'sony given OS' and is
thinking of reinstalling windows. I know that if I
install windows, it will overwrite my MBR and so I
would not be able to boot to linux. So, before doing
anything, I would like to get some expert opinion as
to how can I go about this. I do not have a floppy
reader in my system and do not have a boot floppy.
However, I do have the FC3 recovery CD with me. Would
that be fine to get my linux box working after the
fresh install of windows? Can I just keep a copy of
the present grub.config and use the same after my
fresh install?

Regards,

Dileep
