[wplug] Debian boot messages -- where at??

I'm running a fresh install of Debian and I've noticed that the logs are 
considerably less verbose than I am used to, and than I would like.  In 
particular, I thought the entire content of the text displayed to the 
console during bootup was displayed in /var/log/messages, but an error 
message I saw flash by is not present in that (or any other) file.  Where 
did it go?
