A bastardization imposed by MicroSoft - I thought that was the
definition of Windows. (Sort of like "Windows - the world's most popular
computer virus").
(Sorry about that, Folks - having a problem with the "find -atime "
option today, so I'm wearing the "Le Grinch Du Connellsville" personnae).

I favor the canonical .html, .htm is a bastardization imposed on the
market by M$
