In my experience with apt and Red Hat & Fedora, it's easy to do kernel
upgrades, so long as you don't, say, jump between 2.4 and 2.6.

If you decide to upgrade your kernel, you'll need to remember to
upgrade to specific versions of the kernel, and do so explicitly with
"apt-get install kernel=x.xx". Use "apt-cache search kernel" to see
which versions are available to you.
