You may want to contact the manufacturer and have your drive diagnosed.
Also see if the manufacturer specifies any "Certified Media" for that
drive.

I had a friend burn backups to DVDs before doing his 6 month windows
reinstall.  (he had gigs upon gigs of classical music mp3s on his system)
When he went to restore, they'd flake out 2/3 through the restore (checksum
errors).  Turned out to be the media.  He started using the stuff on the
manufacturer's list, and life was happy (after he re-ripped all those
CDs)
