[wplug] esd on gnome

Howdy.

I have a friend who's using gnome on a Debian/Sarge system and whenever he
logs in the soundcard puts out this repeating hissing sound. Now he can
kill esd and it goes away. So I was wondering how to prevent esd from
starting in the first place. I'm not sure what is spawing the daemon
thought. Can anyone offer a suggestion?
