Hello,

I run a fedora core 3 on a sony vaio. I am not able to
activate my ethernet connection at the university
(static ip). At home, where there is a dynamic ip is
there, I find no prblems in establishing the
connection.

my /etc/sysconfig/networking/device/ifcfg-etho looks
like this:

DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=none
ONBOOT=yes
TYPE=Ethernet
USERCTL=no
PEERDNS=yes
IPV6INIT=no
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
IPADDR=136.142.171.227
GATEWAY=136.142.171.1

when I do an ifconfig, I get the following results:

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr
08:00:46:BC:A8:1E
          inet addr:136.142.171.227

My /var/log/message has the following part:
