I like the quote: "The competition won't be pretty. It will bruise egos and 
force hard thinking on both sides. But out of it, we'll get a better Linux, 
a better Solaris -- and a better understanding of what's valuable in 
open-source."

Personnally I think both will move forward almost despite each other.  
OpenSolaris will develop it's community.  It may take a long time for it to 
ever reach Linux levels but.....
