Rule of thumb is 8-16 meg per user, per application (file server, db
server). Dual 2G CPU should be all you need in most cases. Gigabit Ethernet
will help.

Subject: [wplug] HowTo - Spec out a Linux Server

hello again,

I'm seeking some general recommendations for linux server specs and vendors.

I'm looking for a machine that can support about 100-200 (max usage) remote
nfs users.

I've heard that for Windows Server you should estimate about 20MB of ram per
remote user... anyone know how or where I can figure this out for my linux
situation?

Also if anyone has experience with Dell,IBM or other linux server vendor, I
would be very interested to hear you experiences.

Thank you all very much for your time.

Matt Engel
