[wplug] I'm a Linux whimp (need kernel help)

Alright you bunch of topic hijackers .... listen up !!!!

(Just teasing! Don't take offense OR ELSE )

So here's how it went.

I re-downloaded CVS and attempted to make World which resulted in LOTS of
errors again.

I took another look at the only thing that came close to working.
I went back to the DRI snapshot ftp directory.

Along with the savage stuff I noticed a common tarball and downloaded it.
I extracted the common tarball and then the savage tarball.
I noticed they were made to intergrate with each other.

I re-ran the install script and everything compiled and loaded just like last
time.

I loaded the savage module and started X.

I fire up a 3D app. (Chromium) and the system freezes.
I reboot and try the same thing again and get the same results.

Today I fire up the laptop and let it boot into init 5.
I log in and realize I didn't load the savage module.

I run glxinfo and see direct rendering is ENABLED.
I run Chromium and it runs !!!!!

So now I have what I wanted, 3D acceleration on my laptop's SuperSavage IX/C
chipset.

I still remain clueless as to kernel.
Do they make a kernel for dummies book by any chance?
