To be honest, there isn't much of a difference between how you
write code on Linux/Solaris/FreeBSD/Windows.  If you're using
C and keep up with POSIX then there should not be much of a problem
just moving from say Code Warrior to say KDevelop.  Or in my
case vi(1) and cc(1) (gcc(1)).

My guess is that these people will just need trained in how to
interact with the operating system.  Perhaps a quick overview on
how to use GCC and make, then a few hours practice with the
operating system with someone watching over them.  Explain simple
proceedures like logging in (even easier with xdm/kdm/gdm).
