It turns out that you can run IBM's BIOS-upgrade-diskette-creator .exe
files just fine under dosemu under linux (the dosemu-freedos Debian
package).

If you have a floppy drive for your laptop, you can then boot that
directly to flash your BIOS.

If not, you can create a bootable CD using the floppy image as the
boot-image.  Check out the archives of the LTP list:

(use Google with "site:linux-thinkpad.org", since they don't seem to
