[wplug] spontaneous X combustion?

Hey folks,

It was good to see many of you at the last meeting. Already, I've come
up with a question, probably straightforward but I haven't had the time
to figure it out so I figure I'll just send it out there...

I'm running Fedora Core 1 on an old P2 266. It seemed to be working
fine until one day, magically, I stopped being able to start X. That
is, I can't run startx. It blanks the screen for a few seconds then
crashes back to the command line. /var/log/XFree86.0.log doesn't show
anything of interest. No errors at all. The last line recorded is (II)
DevInputMice: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded.

I discovered that it runs without a hitch as root, so my first
suspicion is that it is a permission problem.

/usr/X11R6/bin/startx itself is 755/root/root
/etc/X11/XF86Config is 664/root/root (I tried opening it up without
joy.)

Now, I'm sure there are other files with permissions that need to be
set correctly but I'm not sure what they might be. Any input?

Bill
