[wplug] lcd problems in xwindows

We have a few lcd monitors here at work. They are nec multisync 1760v's,
and they look fairly nice. I've tried a few distros out on them including
fedora core 1 and core 2, knoppix, and debian stable. All of them have this
problem with the display. It's as if there is some kind of horizontal
ghosting which extends horizontally from windows. This is a picture I took
of the problem:

It doesn't show up too well in the picture, but it's pretty bad. It seems
better with fedora than it did with debian stable and knoppix. I've changed
the parameters in the XF86Config file (and xorg.conf on fedora) to
correspond to the correct settings for that monitor.

Has anyone had any problems like this on lcds? Does anyone have any advice
to offer on this?
