[wplug] Of potential interest Sat AM - CMU Autonomous Vehicle in race [OT]

Hi All,

Don't know if you are aware that CMU has an autonomous vehicle entered 
in the DARPA Grand Challenge race across the desert from CA to Las 
Vegas (www.darpa.mil/grandchallenge/overview.html).

Anyway, I'm hoping I'll be able to get a reasonable connection with my 
notebook to get the live tracking of the race for those who are 
interested while we are at the install fest. They will be doing live 
coverage of the start at 9:30 am eastern and the first autonomous 
vehicle to get to the finish in under 10 hours wills $1M.

The Red Team's (www.redteamracing.org) Sandstorm (HMMWV with lots of 
gadgets) qualified on the first day of qualifying trials at a race 
track in Fontana, CA.

There was a short story yesterday on NPR (www.npr.org) about the race 
in general but focusing on the Red Team with an interview of "Red" 
Whittaker - the CMU Robotics Prof leading the team.
