Amanda cannot append to tapes, and that is by design according to their
FAQ-O-Matic.  They list some work around solutions too.  It would be
nice if they had append to tape as an option though.

Is their anyone out their using Amanda. Their site is not the best. I
did an
installed amanda-2.4.2p2-7.i386.rpm and it lacks any man pages. The
customer
wants to do appends to a single LTO tape drive for ~300MB file. They
want to
do this continually until the tape is full +one a month full system
backup.
Offsite is provided by scp copy script for the ~300MB tar/gziped file.
