Ahem ... I accidentally hit send on that before I was done typing ...

Anyway, a few years ago when I was working on this, I seem to remember some
calculations that could be done based on wattage and antenna db to estimate
range ... so far my searches for this information have proved fruitless.

Does anyone have any links to good reference material on this.  I'm on
my way to the bookstore to see if there's anything on dead wood that
covers this better than the manufacturer's market-speak, so recommendations
for books would be helpful as well.

It's amazing how much you can forget over the course of a few years!
