Sometime in June Wise, Jeremey assaulted the keyboard and produced:

| I believe you would just make a new printer definition but modify the
| driver to print only BW. This is a setting specific to the driver. In
| the case of my office printer I just defined multiple printers that have
| variations on such definitions.

In cups parlance I can either "modify" a printer or "configure" a printer.
When I modify the printer, I can basically change the protocol (lpd, ipp,
etc.) and change the driver. Since no drivers exist for xerox printers,
I've just selected the generic postscript driver. My other option is to
"configure" the printer. Here I can can specify the output resolution,
duplex, media source, and banners. Are you using a driver which has more
options in the "configure" section? If it matters, I'm using cups 1.1.17 on
redhat 9 right now.
