ClamAV is pretty good, as far as I've seen it's only the historical
"zoo" definitions which are [currently] lagging the commercial
vendors. So it's probably a pretty good idea to start scanning your
mail, if you can, and to get AV integrated with your system. With the
amount of attention and new users that GNU/Linux is getting, coupled
with the bloat of KDE/GNOME/Mozilla, it's only a matter of time before
a significant malware event. While it won't help against a zero day
event, if Clam continues to be updated as zealously as it seems to be
at present it can provide a backup to Good Sysadmin Practices - and
help give you peace-of-mind if you don't run md5sum as religiously as
you ought.
