I'd make sure you don't have a duplex mismatch. Maybe your switch is set
to Full and your linux box is set to half? That's almost always the
problem. Otherwise, make sure you don't have the debug switch enabled on
your Samba process, ie /usr/local/bin/smbd -d9. That'll bring it to a
crawl as well.
