If anyone is looking for a really good rescue cd, check out

I just used it to resize some NTFS partitions and I was very impressed
by the software on it in general.

freedos, memory and other hardware diagnostic tools, ntfs read/write,
secure harddrive wiping, perl, various partition managers -namely
QtParted (which I used
to resize the NTFS partitions) - drive cloning util,  various
filesystem utils,  cd/dvd burning
utils, network tools, web browsers, anti-virus, and of course editors
and archiving tools.
many of these are gui utils that run in the framebuffer.  You can even
put it on a usb memory stick!
