[wplug] roaming nic cards on rh9

Hi all,
I have a dell laptop, that when when I boot at home (i.e. not in the
docking station) my wireless nic moves to eth1 because of course eth1
(dock) isn't present anymore.
This makes sense, but because one is wireless and one is lan, i have to
rip out eth1 and reinstall it for the wireless.
Is there a way to "hard" configure these nics so that if they aren't
present they're just disabled?
Or has anyone written any scripts that they wouldn't mind shareing to
autoconfigure nics based on their availability?

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.
Joe
