That's very true. The tools that RMS and others developed as part of the GNU project are very valuable, and he deserves credit for creating them, as well as starting the free software movement.

Absolutely! He does NOT deserve a naming credit for an entire system that has Linux at its core. That would be thoroughly unjust. What about all of the non-kernel, non-GNU components? Don't they take up a considerable part of most distros?

It was Linux that spurred on the most popular free operating system, as well as inspired the open source movement. "Linux" is worthy of its own name.

At least Linus isn't selling the naming rights to the kernel, like they do with stadiums. Ooh... "McDonald's Linux... free distro with every happy meal!" :-)
