So do you have your wap's "uplink" or "WAN" plug connected to an ethernet 
card on your server?  For some reason, that didn't work for me.  I am just 
using my [D-Link] wap as a dumb-hub, with nothing plugged into its "WAN" 
port.  I can't remember exactly what my symptom was.

Anyways, when I did this, everything worked okay, except the wap always
specified *itself* as the gateway, rather than my server.  I had to change
my laptop's wireless card config to "PeerDNS=no" and specify my gateway
and DNS manually.

I don't know if this relates to your problem or not. Just some 
food-for-thought.
