Sometime in February Wise, Jeremey assaulted the keyboard and produced:

i use the gimp every once in a while for random things. you can learn a lot
by poking around, but i think a book would have been really good when i
started messing around with it. 

i cannot get there now, but this book might be useful for getting started:
