What daemon?

The only use for the sendmail program that ships with Postfix is to mimic
the behaviour of the sendmail MTA for client programs that expect it.
It is not used anywhere in the mail processing process.  It shoudl not
be called by any other Postfix process.

If I'm understanding you correctly, it sounds like Pine needs to be
taught the correct way to call the sendmail interface.  Check your
Pine config.
