start xchat
go to  X-Chat -> Server List
type in 3 different nicknames at the top
go to Networks, there should be a list there
select FreeNode
if not, click Add, and add freenode - irc.us.freenode.net, irc.freenode.net
join channels:  #wplug

Connect.
