All of that is about to change. Today, children in Ernsthausen's class
will begin getting home computers, courtesy of the city school district.
Her class and a class at Clayton Elementary School on the North Side are
the first participants in Pittsburgh Public Schools' "Emerging Links
Project" designed to bridge the digital divide between affluent and
nonaffluent families.

These are school district-owned computers which have been replaced with
newer models. For about $90 each, the district has refurbished them,
replacing all of the moving parts.
