No - not might, it _will_ lose data.
There's some good sites that document this stuff out there, start
with links at Ogg or WinAMP. One of the best docs I can recall reading was
on MP3 -vs- WMA quality and much about encoding formats and algorithms was
discussed or referenced elsewhere..
My personal experience has been that there's not so much of an
appreciable loss in quality as there is an obvious loss in channel
separation - things are "less stereo" on those I've cross-converted several
times. Yes, there are appreciable losses in frequency range, particularly
when played back on a good stereo (like the CDA-7998 in my car) but it's not
nearly as appreciable as the loss of channel separation.
