You can certainly kill X by hitting control-alt-backspace.  This'll
either bring you back to the console if you are running at runlevel 3,
or back to {x,g,k}dm if you are at runlevel 5, and it should
reinitialize the Mouse driver if then.

You might want to try configuring the mouse as something other than
generic PS/2, depending on the KVM.
