[wplug] kdeinit relocation error?

Hi all,

This is my first post here, since I'm just now trying to get Red Hat
8 running on my machine--though, hopefully I'll be showing up for some
WPLUG events and making some activity on this list. Maybe one day even
*offering* some help. But right now, it's my frustration that's got me
here. I've googled it for days, but I still can't get it going. I
formatted my hard drive and installed Red Hat 8.0, downloaded all the
RPM's from rhn.redhat.com, but now when I try to load up my beloved KDE,
I get "Couldn't find kdeinit. Check your installation," and "Couldn't
find ksmserver. Check your installation." Google shows I'm not alone
here, but apparently no one feels like answering this painful little
situation. The X session records the following:

ksplash: relocation error: /usr/lib/libkdefx.so.4: undefined symbol:
(insert long, apparently meaningless string here)

kdeinit: relocation error: /usr/lib/libkdecore.so.4: undefined symbol:
(insert long, apparently meaningless string here)

ksmserver: relocation error: /usr/lib/libkdefx.so.4: undefined symbol:
(insert long, apparently meaningless string here)

I'm figuring one of those RPM's from rhn misplaced or otherwise
corrupted some files in /usr/lib/ to bring me to this, but my hacking is
not hard-core enough to dream of what the answer could be. Do any of
you have any ideas, clues, leads, or anything that might possibly,
conceivably, bring me back my beautiful KDE?

Thanks,
Jason Godesky

P.S. -- Yes, James, *that* Jason Godesky, the recently graduated PittACM
prez who kept wanting to form a bit of an alliance with WPLUG, but never
quite found the way to do it. What can I say? I've always been a fan
of the idea of open source; now I'm finally starting to practice what I
preach. :^D
