Somehow I was reminded: when I've bought a Linux distro, I think a
bigger motivation for me than sending money to developers was creating/
sustaining the market in the stores that carried it. I think I usually
went to Best Buy. My thinking was, if Linux lovers buy their distro at
a store such as Best Buy, the store will continue to carry it, and it
will seem more accessible to newbies who might be interested in it but
don't know anyone who uses it (whom they could copy it from), and who
may not trust buying this stuff over the Internet.
