Don't worry, it's just the healthy amount of frustration one has to go
through to feel king of the world right after :-)

We're all trying to help each other because we like what we do and
because helping other people feels great. Money has nothing to do with
it.

Now, for the problems:

Check out a step-by-step installation tutorial at
http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~apapadop/linux/howto.html#3.1.1

If you were installing Red Hat 7.3 you wouldn't even have to think, as
all clicks / keystrokes are documented, but it might help nevertheless.

In any event, if Don's expert help somehow proves not to be adequate to
get you up and running, you can always

[0] Bring your computer to CMU and get first-hand help from me, or
[1] Try installing a distribution easier to handle, e.g. KNOPPIX 3.2
(which, in case you're wondering, I also have downloaded and will be
spreading around CMU, so you can step by and get a copy :-)

Having said that, learning how to beat your current problems will be
quite instructive, so I'd suggest not giving up just yet!

Good luck
